Text Box: Meeting Notes from the
NSPE Regional Meeting

The NSPE Regional Meeting was held October 6, 7, and 8, 2005 in Austin, Texas and was attended by State Delegate, Murray Schroeder.

The Future Directions Task Force Action Plan is available on-line. This was accepted by National in July 2005. It needs to be reviewed and understood by all society members, including local leadership. Much of the two-day meeting discussed the NSPE new direction, which appears to be a regional commitment. Visit the plan on-line at nspe.org.
Sponsorship by NSPE of Put the Brakes on Fatalities will likely be dropped. Other programs (Mathcounts is one) may also be removed from a national level. States may elect to keep maintaining the programs. These programs do not fit the revised objections of the organization.
Text Box: The focus items that have come from the
Future Directions Task Force do not cover
this type of effort and can be reviewed on-
       line.
3. The Implementation Task Force is
       charged with implementing the Future
Directions Task Force action plan. There
are some quick hit items that will be
ready in a short while by the Task Force
       including:
	a. Developing an accounting tem-
                     plate for state societies.
	b. Developing member value calcu-
                     lator for membership participa-
                     tion.
	c. Developing newsletter templates
                     for states.
	d. Developing a chapter leader out-
                     reach program.
The Metric Task Force is charged with measuring success of the plan.

Wyoming needs to name a State Delegate by March 2006 for the House of Delegates. The person will serve one term. One half states serve one and the other half serve two, so as not to loose members all at once. Boston hosts the first House of
        Delegates events in July 2006.
Chapter Reports and Best
        Practices Discussions came up
        with the following suggestions:
	a. Several states in our re-
	     gion support providing a
                     complimentary meal at
                     PE exams.
	b. MATHCOUNTS will
probably be dropped in Arkansas (not our
                    region).
	c. Letters to new PE’s and
                     post PE’s party invita- tions.
